Description

An important whisky company, John Hopkins & Co. Ltd., was established in 1874 and originally distributed cognac before moving into Scotch whisky. The Glen Garry blend was created by John Hopkins & Co. in 1878. The company marketed its Glen Garry and Old Mull blends from Glasgow and was responsible for building the Speyburn distillery in 1896. John Hopkins & Co. Ltd. was acquired by Distillers Company Ltd (DCL) in 1916, and later became responsible for the running of Oban Distillery after DCL acquired it in the 1930s.
