Description

One of the biggest names in Scotland's Speyside region, currently under Italian ownership by the Campari Group. Opened in 1840 by James and John Grant, it has one of Scotch whisky's longest-running single malt brands and played a key role in the emergence of the category in the 20th century. This particular expression is a 34 Year Old Glen Grant, distilled in 1973 and bottled in 2008 by The Single Malts of Scotland from a single Sherry Puncheon.

Nose
Ginger cake, brambles, dark chocolate, mixed peel, golden syrup, apples, cinnamon & cocoa. Mild alcohol prickle that enhances the nose. Evolves into classic rich sherried fruitcake with a delicious nuttiness. Not a trace of sulphur, either.
Palate
Richly-flavoured with great, but not overbearing, weight. All the elements from the nose are present, with the fruitcake and hazelnut dominating initially and the spices remaining gentle but firm. The fruit / spice / oak balance is spot-on: this is a real charmer.
Finish
Lingering finish.
