Description
The Black Isle in the northern Highlands is rich with whisky history, where illicit moonshiners shared the land with several licensed distillers. The Glen Ord distillery, built in 1838 and owned by a local Laird called Thomas MacKenzie, was one of the latter. The region has always been fertile with barley, making it an ideal location, and allowing the distillery to be self-sufficient, with its own maltings. This 12-year-old expression was a popular dram, known for being an exuberantly spicy malt with sherry influence, and a fine example of the Highland style. It was later discontinued and largely replaced by The Singleton of Glen Ord, primarily for the Asian market.
