Description

A Speyside malt distillery located in the town after which it is named. It was built in 1967 by Mackinlay-McPherson and was traded around several notable distilling companies before being sold to Billy Walker in 2017. Under current ownership, its single malt has emerged as well-respected brand. This 27 year old single malt was drawn from Sherry Butt #2517 and bottled in 2018 as part of the 50th Anniversary Bottling series, with an outturn of 526 bottles.

Nose
fairly neutral, on yellow apples, golden raisins and bready notes. Oranges with cloves, subtle nutty notes. Hints of ripe banana and ripe berries in the background, as well as some buttercups and hay.
Palate
powerful alcohol but less flavour than expected. More sherried now, especially showing spicy / herbal notes (pepper, cloves, ginger) including light tannins and then restrained fruity notes (mango, dried pineapple and some blackberries). Fades on chocolate and mint.
Finish
medium long, spicy with jammy fruits and oak.
