Description

Built in 1891, Glenallachie did not begin production until 1898. The whisky from this distillery initially was destined for the White Horse blend, but since Bacardi's takeover in 1998, the majority of its output now heads for the Dewar's range. Nose
Musty maltiness with grape, wine, currant, raisins, prunes, subtle citrus, cocoa powder, oats, mulled wine with nutmeg, brown sugar, molasses. Bran muffin, milled grains, fried dough, oatmeal raisin cookies. Deeper wood, foliage, wet pipe tobacco after water.
Palate
Effervescent zing, rich mouthfeel, dark chocolate, cherry liqueur, orange zest, liquorice, walnut tannins. Spiced figs, decadent truffles, roasted pecans, walnuts, earthy and woody flavors. Aromatic cedar, moss, dewy underbrush. Viscous texture.
Finish
Long, chocolate fading to liquorice, balanced sweetness by walnut. Malted barley, bran cake, grits, buttered sourdough toast. Tobacco, baking spices (nutmeg, cardamom, dried ginger). Citrus, orange oils. Praline, dark cocoa, vanilla bean. Salinity, salted pretzels, seared meat.
