Description

This Glendalough 7 Years Porter Barrel Irish Whiskey is a single malt initially matured in virgin American Bourbon Oak or ex-Bourbon barrels for six years. It then undergoes a finishing period of 12 months in porter barrels sourced from Dublin's 5 Lamps Brewery (also referred to as Black Pitts porter casks). The 7-year aging period commemorates St. Kevin, the figure depicted on the bottle, who spent seven years in the wild and built the 'City of Seven Churches' at Glendalough.

Nose
Cocoa and toffee apples lead with toasted oak, latte and soft vanilla underneath. Sweet with dark chocolate and vanilla ice cream notes, a touch of cinnamon and citrus fruits like orange zest and lemon, infused with vanilla ice cream, and fresh floral notes.
Palate
Rich dark chocolate and cooked fruit emerge from a wave of black pepper and clove spice, with a touch of mandarin. Smooth and warm with mandarin orange, cocoa, toffee and cooked fruit, followed by clove and peppery spices. Silky, velvety smooth with orange zest, rich creme brulee, dark chocolate, cinnamon, white pepper spice, robust malt, and butterscotch.
Finish
Long and retains the warmth and spice of the palate. Long and spicy with toasted oak, treacle and brown-sugared coffee notes. Luxurious and lingering, with spicy, sweet notes. Dry oak with a brightness and slight char, similar to a porter, rounding out with bitter dark chocolate, and very long for the ABV.
