Description

In 1826 the exuberant and extroverted James Allardice, along with a consortium of local farmers, founded the distillery and began producing his "Guid GlenDronach" single malt. Unfortunately Allardice's marketing strategy of offering free drams to Edinburgh's "ladies of night", coupled with a fire at the distillery in 1837, led to him declaring bankruptcy. Thankfully however, the story doesn't end. This GlenDronach 1992 26 Year Old was bottled exclusively for The Whisky Shop, matured in a single sherry cask, and is naturally coloured and non chill-filtered.

Nose
Rum soaked, dark chocolate coated sultanas, some distant coffee, a faint touch of toffee with a liquorice edge and a very delicate smokiness lurking in the background.
Palate
Deliciously sherry rich, dark treacle toffee infused with rum soaked raisins, orange, the barley sugar manages to break through the layers of sherry along with some vanilla and honey. Some lovely late oak spice, cinnamon and ginger add to the pleasure.
Finish
A long finish, the juicy sherry notes hangs in there for an age before before fading leaving some lovely lingering cinnamon and ginger and some mildly drying, and still vibrant for its age, oak spice.
