Description

In 1826 the exuberant and extroverted James Allardice, along with a consortium of local farmers, founded the distillery and began producing his "Guid GlenDronach" single malt. Unfortunately Allardice's marketing strategy of offering free drams to Edinburgh's "ladies of night", coupled with a fire at the distillery in 1837, led to him declaring bankruptcy. Nose
A rich, juicy nose, packed with raisins, figs and sloe berries. A touch of tobacco. Beautiful, warm Christmas cake with plums, cherries, and stewed figs.
Palate
Quite nutty at first (walnuts and almonds), before giving way to more dried fruit sweetness. Thick, viscous mouthfeel with balanced ginger heat. Rich caramel, plum jam, Christmas cake, baked raisins. Dark chocolate (80% cacao) and fine leather bound books.
Finish
Hints of cedar spice and diced herbs. Long, with more dried stone fruit, dark chocolate (70% cacao), and a beautiful ginger spice fade. Rich, old leather notes.
