Description

In 1826 the exuberant and extroverted James Allardice, along with a consortium of local farmers, founded the distillery and began producing his "Guid GlenDronach" single malt. Unfortunately Allardice's marketing strategy of offering free drams to Edinburgh's "ladies of night", coupled with a fire at the distillery in 1837, led to him declaring bankruptcy. Satisfying and charming aromas of old wood, sweet and sour notes, toffee mocha, liquorice, a real charred character, leather, mustard, cured meat, delicate herbal and floral notes.
Palate
Extremely rich and very balanced in flavour, muscular and steady, with dried fruits, blackberry jam, spicy but not hot, and fresh strawberries, remarkably smooth.
Finish
Quite delicate and smooth texture on the long finish, with notes of stewed tea, cooked fruits, jams, milk chocolate, orange peel, some smoke and pepper, lasting beautifully.
