Description

Sitting on the Highland/Lowland border, Glengoyne distills its whisky in the Highlands and matures it in the Lowlands. Founded in 1833, under the name Burnfoot, the distillery is now owned by Ian MacLeod distillers which champions its slow distillation process and a complete lack of peat, as well as a rigorous approach to its sherry cask selection. This 16 Year Old expression is the third bottling in The Oak Masters' Series. It features 10-year-old spirit that matured in ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, followed by a lengthy six-year secondary maturation in virgin Japanese Mizunara oak butts. It is bottled at natural cask strength of 53.4% ABV, is non-chill filtered, and has natural color. Only 3,195 bottles were released globally in 2025.

Nose
Soft vanilla sweetness and toffee, entwined with sandalwood, delicate incense, and the faint whisper of blossom. Nutty and woody aromas with a hint of floral, sandalwood, sweet ginger, bitter chocolate, toasted walnut, hazelnut praline, old cigar box, porcini-like umami, and pink bubble gum.
Palate
Warming spices, coconut, crisp green apples, and a whisper of liquorice. Full on, luscious and rich with bitter dark chocolate, sweetened almond paste, hazelnut praline, confected fruitiness (toffee apple, caramelised pear, ripe pineapple, juicy white peach), waxy furniture polish, old cigar box, dried tobacco leaf, sandalwood, toasted coconut, menthol, eucalyptus oil, and peppery warmth.
Finish
Long, floral, and elegant—a graceful fade with echoes of cherry blossom, sweet wood, and spicy warmth. Increasingly dry and woody with peppery spice and freshly baked gingerbread, oak tannins, and bitter dark chocolate.
