Nose
There's a strong alcohol sting which is immediately followed by toffee, pipe tobacco, and port wine.
Palate
Without water, the spiciness is very overpowering, which makes it difficult to pick up much else. Adding a good slosh of water really opens up the flavor palate. Though the spice is still there, other flavors start to come through, namely maple syrup, cinnamon, and caramel.
