Description

A single malt whisky from Glenkinchie, a Lowland distillery owned by Diageo. This 1986 vintage is part of 'The Distillers Edition' series, which is also a 'Special Release' and 'Limited Edition'. It was double matured, initially in refill casks and then finished in Amontillado sherry casks, before being bottled in 1999.

Nose
Sherry sweetness, apricot, malty goodness with hints of oak and honey. Crisp, yet well-formed, and complex. Nicely balanced between drier notes from the wine and sweeter, nutty notes of barley and cask wood.
Palate
Luxurious with notes of oak, dried apricot, cherries and sherry sweetness. Toasted nuts and freshly baked shortbread. Creamy honey sweetness with soft pepper, candied ginger and cinnamon. Lightly oily, and sweetly malty to start, then spicy, with rich dried fruit hints of raisin and date. Creamy-smooth, with lightly grapey sweetness balanced by warming wood-spice.
Finish
Dry oak with sherry sweetness and bits of spice. Long and lingering. Attractively drying and oaky, while lightly white pepper-spicy.
