Description

This is an 11-year-old single malt Scotch whisky from the Glenrothes distillery, independently bottled by The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) as release 30.125. Distilled in 2013 and bottled in 2024, it was matured in a first-fill ex-bodega oloroso butt finish after spending six years in a refill oloroso butt. This release is part of the 'Honey lavender popcorn' bottling series and has an ABV of 66.0%. Only 504 bottles were released.

Nose: Impressive and charming nose. Opening a new library book we found a hidden compartment stuffed with cinder toffee, waxy honeycomb pieces, and fig rolls wrapped in paper decorated with calligraphy ink. Water offered peach cobbler and Dundee cake.
Palate: The palate is very powerful and complex. Smooth texture. A smooth and sweet lavender, honey, nutmeg and raisin purée, with marmalade atop custard tarts. Water gifted sultanas, lavender popcorn and cask char.
Finish: Impressive length on the finish, very unique and complex.

The sweet lavender, honey and raisin notes make this sound more floral and dessert-led than smoke-led. Cask char appears in the palate notes with water, but that alone doesn’t establish a clear smoke level.
