Description
Hidden in a tree-lined gorge, the Glenrothes distillery is nestled in the core of the Speyside region, a stone's throw from the Burn of Rothes and the Mannoch Hills. Producing malt whiskies using exact replicas of the original 1879 pot stills, the Glenrothes hallmark is to use Scottish barley, malted in traditional Saladin boxes. The product is bottled in a characteristic, squat, bulbous vessel. Glenrothes is notable for its vintage releases, focusing on the year of distillation rather than age statements. The whiskies are often described as elegant and well-balanced, characterized by fruity and floral notes, with the influence of sherry-seasoned oak casks often evident. This 1985 vintage was bottled in 2005, making it a 20-year-old single malt.
