Description

A 14-year-old single malt whisky from the silent Glenury distillery, independently bottled by Signatory Vintage. Distilled in November 1978 and bottled in 1993, this release is one of 1200 bottles from casks 9776-79. Glenury Royal was known for its fragrant, elegant, spicy, and robust spirit, often exhibiting an oily texture with notes of cereal and tropical fruit. The distillery closed in 1983, making its bottlings increasingly rare.

Nose
Very fruity with yellow apple, pear, muskmelon, plum, and mirabelle. Malty and grassy notes of hay and wet cut grass, with a bit of pine resin. Hints of orange peel, old-fashioned wax furniture polish, and a slight antiseptic or maritime quality.
Palate
Initially a bit thin but full of flavors. Pear leads, followed by apple, diluted orange juice, apricot, plum, and pineapple. Barley water, a spoon of honey, and a light wood bitterness. Some cocoa powder and half an espresso. Orange peel and nuts are prominent, bringing a dryness and waxy texture. A light bit of peat and hay, with dried herbs and green apple.
Finish
Lingering chocolatey bitterness with some fruits. Good length, with notes of orange peels, paraffin wax, and vanilla. Long, rich, and quite dry.
