Description

Mitchell & Sons were a merchant family who began trading in Dublin 1805. Their original brand of 'Spot' was last seen around the 1960's and is the inspiration behind this bottling. The name comes from the family practice of marking their casks with a different colored painted spot to signify the age of the whisky in the cask. 40% ABV / 70cl

Flagship expression in the Spot family of Irish whiskeys
Historical context
The Mitchell family began trading in Dublin in 1805 and expanded into whiskey bonding in 1887. The 'Spot' name originated from their practice of marking casks with colored paint to indicate age. Green Spot was originally a 10-year-old whiskey and was rebranded from 'Pat Whiskey' in the 1920s. It was exclusively sold by Mitchell & Son until the 1980s and is the only 'Spot' whiskey to have been in continuous production since the early 1900s.
Special release
Historically sold exclusively through Mitchell & Son's Dublin shop and not widely available outside Dublin until the 1980s.
Allocation
Historically, mainly Dublin, Ireland
