Description

Hankey Bannister 40 Year Old 250th Anniversary Edition is an intricate and sophisticated blended Scotch whisky, specially selected to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Hankey Bannister partnership, which was established in 1757. This precious blend contains some of the world's rarest whiskies, with the youngest component distilled in 1967. It was bottled in 2007 and matured in Spanish sherry oak casks. This limited edition release comes in a crystal decanter with two branded glasses and a stopper, and was awarded 'World's Best Blended Whisky' at the World Whiskies Awards multiple times.

Nose
Quite light, yet rather punchy, with notes of winter spice and black pepper with a touch of caramel. Sweet home baking aromas, brown sugars, vanilla cake dough, butterscotch, and spiced caramelized bananas. Rich, dense, and complex with sweet fruity notes (dried fruits, raisins, sultanas, candied orange peel, dates) and lovely wood spices (sandalwood, cinnamon, nutmeg), figs and plums.
Palate
Fresh and crisp with medium-body. Notes of buttery biscuit and toffee fudge with cereal sweetness and a creamy mouthfeel. Incredibly rich and complex, spicy and peppery, yet with fruity notes of figs, dates and cinnamon. Luscious, creamy/heavy - dark and chewy with lots of lovely sherry influence.
Finish
Good length with a fudge sweetness. Progresses through subtle traces of autumn spices to the sweet tinges of bitter chocolate and honeycomb toffee with the tannins lingering long in the mouth.
