Description

A malt distillery on the Isle of Harris that commenced production in 2015. Founded by Anderson Bakewell, the distillery was intended to provide a long-term employment solution to the dwindling island population. Its single malt is called Hearach and it also produces the popular eponymous gin label. The first ever single malt brand to be produced on the Isle of Harris in the Scottish Outer Hebrides. This Hearach First Fill Oloroso Cask Matured is the second permanent expression within The Hearach single malt range, launched in 2023 and bottled in 2024. It is matured entirely in first-fill Oloroso sherry butts sourced from Bodega José y Miguel Martín in Andalusia, Spain.

Nose
Initially aromas of cinnamon, orange peel, and cloves, with green notes of mixed herbs and the creaminess of white chocolate. A light curl of smoke over dried cranberries, black licorice, black pepper, and creamy malt. Delicate ripe red fruits, hazelnuts, and ethereal peat with toasted herbs and mint.
Palate
Zesty spice, ginger, black pepper, vanilla toffee, leathery undertones, and earthy tobacco. Wood smoke and walnuts shells, with a herbal hint of dried thyme and burnt oranges. Sweetness of fruit with caramel, liquorice, and spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.
Finish
Medium length with lingering sweet smoke, dried fruit, and a leathery, subtly spiced fade. Long and balsamic, with a salty trail on notes of incense, herbs, charcoal smoke, liquorice, red fruits and crème brûlée.
