Description

Although Direct Wines are the world's largest mail-order wine retailer, the company also provides independent whisky bottlings. The most well-known of their ranges is perhaps the First Cask series showcasing single cask whiskies bottled at 46% ABV from a wide variety of distilleries. Nose
Fruity (lemon, orange zest, baked cherries, dark fruits, raisins, papaya), with hints of lavender, grassy notes, light peat, green tea, honey, caramel, and baking spices like cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg.
Palate
Honeyed and lemony, evolving into rich, sherried, nutty flavors with dark chocolate, orange zest, and aromatic smoke. Also notes of spiced black cherries, sugar-glazed plums, chai tea, and a savory, slightly bitter character with apple skins, light wood, and ginger biscuits.
Finish
Long and lingering, with orange marmalade, salt, sweet and spicy notes, dark chocolate, drying spices, herbal tea, and a subtle ashy, smoky, and floral peat presence.
