Description

Highland Park remains the most northerly whisky distillery in Scotland, although not by much, as it is little more than a stone's throw from fellow Orcadian, Scapa. Accounts of the distillery's genesis vary, and the truth is probably lost to the mists of time, but it is thought that a local farmer named David Robertson founded what we now know as Highland Park distillery in 1798, on the site of an illicit still. This London Edition is an 18-year-old single malt, distilled in 2002 and bottled in 2021 from a single refill sherry-seasoned European oak cask. It is part of Highland Park's limited-edition Single Cask Series, with only 644 bottles produced for the UK market.

The signature sweet, earthy smoke leads with dried fruit, sponge cake, and ginger in support. Opening aromas of fresh-out-of-the-oven vanilla sponge cake, juicy Galia melon dusted with nutmeg, and light peat smoke make way for intriguing notes of pears poached with aniseed, fragrant cedar wood and floral peat smoke.
Palate
Vanilla, orchard fruit, melon, heather, peat, cinnamon, and malt. Luscious notes of pears and aniseed, with gentle peaty and lingering sweet spice.
Finish
Long and refined. Sweet, woody and light at the finish, with prickles of peppery warmth. Dry, smoky tail accented by bittersweet dark chocolate.
