Nose
Tea-soaked sultanas and plumped salted apricots. Lovely juiciness often present in this distillate...sweeter Sauternes, white grape gummy sweets, stone dust, and warmed wood. A bit of chalk, pollen, and dried leaf, with the trademark heather profile of this Orkney steadfast.
Palate
Reticent peat and heather tea--very juicy with tempered sweetness. Slates piled with sultanas and sea salt, and a few miscellaneous dried fruits with a good grill char on them. Metallics and stone dust round it out, and a pop of sharp apricot jam. Nearly entirely smokeless, really, but with a beautiful, grounding and nearly claylike earthiness of peat that anchors this like a ground bass line. Faint jasmine rice steam, fine perfumed white teas, and a little rose handcream even.
Finish
Cold scented herbal candles, ancient lavender, pollen-laden drooping blooms...stone dust on flowers. Slight pine or juniper herbaciousness. A little spiky on the finish, but closes out nicely with more soaked sultanas, jasmine tea, and toasted rice, some fresh cereals and a blast of floral humidifier steam.
