Description

Hudson's Maple Cask Rye Whiskey takes a fresh approach to the historic rye whiskey for which New York was well known before Prohibition. This whiskey is double distilled from locally harvested New York rye grain and aged in new charred oak barrels. It then imparts a rich maple quality to the spirit by aging it in used whiskey casks which held fresh maple syrup. This special finish lends a wonderful round maple character to Hudson's award winning rye whiskey.

Nose
Vanilla, chiles, marshmallows, char, cinnamon, cloves, black licorice, sappy, maple, oak, young wood, sugary sweetness, floral, fruity with a mossy earthiness, crisp, sweet with honey baked apples, fiery rye, peppermint, menthol, tiger balm, spicy, oily, bitter/minty with a hint of maple.
Palate
Sweet, rich, spicy, full-bodied with a subtle hint of maple, green wood, sap, oak, sugar, vanilla, lemon peel, sweet honey and maple syrup, somewhat cloying, oaky grip, liquorice, cinnamon spiciness, sweet, dessert-like notes, strong cinnamon candy character, smoky caramel of maple syrup, sugars play nicely with spicy rye, takes edge off harshness of young whiskey, mouth tingles and jingles, maple peeps up mid-palate for a sweet turn.
Finish
Medium length, nice round body with no spirit burn, sweetness on lips, hint of campfire smoke, short, woody, sappy, sweet sugar, dry, sweet, oaky with a marked wood driven finish, laden with oak, fiery, hot bite of very young rye, doesn't quite end with everything nice, long delight, lingers.
