Description

From its Mizunara wash backs and small stills with steep lyne arms to the fact that the mashman uses a wooden paddle to stir the mash, Chichibu is a hands-on distillery with quality as an intrinsic focus. With the ground now broken on a blending room, and an off-site cooperage, Ichiro Akuto's distillery - formed from the ashes of his grandfather's Hanyu distillery - is one of the finest producers. This is a blended malt whisky that showcases master whisky maker Ichiro Akuto's expertise, combining whiskies from Chichibu and the now-closed Hanyu Distillery, and sometimes Scottish single malts, finished in red wine casks.

Immediate and highly pronounced wine aromas, soft black and red fruits like black cherries and raspberries, with hints of rose, violet, toffee, coffee, grassiness, menthol, almonds, pepper, and anise. Orange zest, dark chocolate, delicate malt, and black licorice.
Palate
Smooth and rich with red fruits, sweet spices, apples, pineapple, vanilla sweetness, creaminess of dark chocolate, nuttiness, pepper, chilli, grapefruit, citrus, caramel coated nuts, and light tannins.
Finish
Medium to long, sustained by spices, chocolate, red wine, tannins, dark chocolate, berries, and a hint of smoke.
