Description

A former malt distillery in the Speyside region that sadly spent as much time in mothballs as it did distilling. It longest operational period was under ownership of the Distillers Company. It was demolished by Pernod Ricard in 2013 and Dalmunach was built on the site in its place. *

Series highlights
Part of Douglas Laing's 'Provenance' series, which highlights particular distillation seasons (Winter in this case) and is known for single cask selections, natural colour, and no chill-filtration.
Historical context
Distilled from the Imperial distillery, which was mothballed in 1998 and demolished in 2013, making this a bottling from a 'dead distillery'.

Nose
Big notes of pineapple and nectarine, iced lemon cake and honey. Oily, slightly meaty, dirty peat smoke, smoked custard, cinnamon bun, and a hint of raisin. Crisp red apple, creamy vanilla, light oak tannins, caramel, woodspice, floral, and honeydew.
Palate
Medium-light weight with a velvety texture. Heather smoke and grapefruit, milk chocolate and nuts. Clove and anise, white grape and key lime, almost cola-like. Funkier peat notes of minerals, wool socks, ham, punky wood, and more pineapple. Allspice, vanilla, toffee, red apples, ripe pears, honey, grass, and floral notes.
Finish
Sweeter with lingering mineral smoke. Pineapple, pear, date, vanilla, and sweet notes of honey and toffee. Medium length with honey and floral notes.
