A distillery that was closed more than it was ever open - missing out on the high times of single malt whisky - Imperial produced whisky mainly for blending. However, the floral flavours of their whisky has grown in popularity in recent years and stock is starting to run low. Nose
Freshly-cut grass, barley sugar and mint. Caramel wafers, soft toffee covered apples, mango juice, spit-roast pineapple, barley water, cooling mint, dusty aged notes of cellars and attics, old orange liqueurs, reeds and flax. Green apples and lemon yogurt, pink wafer biscuits. Tropical fruit, mango, pineapple, banana, starfruit, almond paste/marzipan, oak.
Palate
Toffee, apples, pears and pineapple. Explosively fruity, orange segments, mandarin peels, peach halves, mango slices and pineapple chunks. Ex-bourbon led toffee, desiccated coconut, polished oak, roasted cashews, preserved lemons, golden syrup, spent coffee beans. Sunflower oil and white fruits – grapes and melon segments.
Finish
Long on fading fruits, walnuts, cashews and spiced lemon zest.
