The berry notes carry through to a lingering finish, with sweet warming spice alongside them. Chilli and spicy oak add a sharper edge on the palate, so this sounds more lively than simply sweet.
Berry sweetness meets chilli spice.
The berry character gives this a cheerful centre: raspberry and sweet confectionery on the nose lead into huckleberry and red berries on the palate. Chilli and spicy oak add a livelier edge, while the finish brings the spice and berry notes together. It’s labelled unpeated, but I’d keep that as context rather than read it as a guarantee about smoke intensity; the documented flavours make the fruit-and-spice combination the clearest point of interest.
What appeals to me here is the contrast between berries and spice. Raspberry, violet and confectionery notes set up a sweet nose, while huckleberry and red berries meet chilli and spicy oak on the palate. The finish carries that relationship through, with warming spice and lingering berry notes. I tend to favour oak when it works alongside another clear flavour, and the berry character gives it that role here. Confectionery sweetness is less of a draw for me on its own, so the chilli and oak matter to my assessment. Taken together, these notes suggest a single malt with enough contrast to keep the sweetness from defining the whole character.
