This Islay South Coast Single Malt is a 14-year-old whisky from the 'A Dream of Scotland' series, independently bottled by Brühler Whiskyhaus. This particular release, known as 'Bad Santa III', was bottled in 2022 at a cask strength of 53.7% ABV. It was finished in a First Fill Cream Sherry Butt, resulting in a limited outturn of 543 bottles. Nose
Creamy, caramel, with a maritime-dirty smoke. Ripe greengages, some mango and ripe pear. Sweet with notes of wine gums, kelp, and smoke that is not overpowering. Initially a bit closed, but then strong smoke, less oily, more mineral, and saltier.
Palate
Creamy-sweet despite the smoke, with maritime aspects reminiscent of a warm summer day. Thick caramel with cherry syrup and very ripe blackberries. Dark chocolate with mocha bean splinters, yellow peach with spices, fennel, anise, and almond cream. Oily and burnt, with cold coffee, old leather, nougat, tar, and ash.
Finish
The creamy sweetness remains in the background while a tart dryness spreads in the mouth, coating the palate with the maritime smoke of charred algae. Long and dry, warming and ashy, with tar, eucalyptus, and minerals.
