Description

The Isle of Harris distillery, founded in 2015, released 'The Hearach' as its first single malt whisky. This Oloroso Cask Matured expression is the fourth batch in the series, bottled in 2024. It is matured for a minimum of 6 years in first-fill Oloroso sherry butts sourced from Bodega José y Miguel Martín in Andalusia, Spain. The whisky is lightly peated (12-15ppm), non-chill filtered, and bottled at 46% ABV. This release is part of a limited outturn of 12,100 bottles.

Initial winter aromas of cinnamon, orange peel, and cloves, with green notes of herbs and creamy white chocolate. Red apples, redcurrants, red berries, honeyed oats, roasted hazelnuts, and a savoury cereal note, with vanilla and a touch of wood spice.
Palate
Walnuts and fireside wood smoke, with a hint of thyme and dried oranges. Juicy red fruits, orange peel, creamy vanilla, walnut fudge, cinnamon, and black pepper. Structured with tannins, soft stewed apples, and sauna wood, complemented by warm toffee and oak.
Finish
Long leather and liquorice finish, with spices like vanilla pods and a subtle sense of cloves. Medium to long, with red fruit fading into coffee and cereal, followed by a touch of warming spice. A hint of wood smoke adds depth.
