Description

The Isle of Raasay Single Malt Whisky - The Chinkapin is the third core release from the Isle of Raasay Distillery. It is a lightly peated single malt crafted from 100% Scottish barley, with both peated and unpeated spirits matured separately in fresh and refill Chinkapin oak casks. These casks, made from North American Chinkapin oak (Quercus muehlenbergii), are highly toasted and heavily charred, imparting distinctive barbecue flavors. Every drop is distilled, matured, and bottled on the Isle of Raasay, and it is natural color and non-chill filtered.

Nose
Sweet vanilla and honeyed malt lead, with toasted coconut and light caramel. Orchard fruits develop with time, alongside a gentle thread of peat smoke and soft oak spice.
Palate
Balanced and textural. Notes of toffee and vanilla are joined by baking spice, roasted nuts, and a slightly drying oak influence. The peat is present but restrained, adding structure rather than dominance.
Finish
Medium length, with lingering oak spice, light sweetness, and a subtle, fading smokiness.
