Description

Based in Kagoshima, the Kanosuke distillery is run by Komasa Jyozo, one of the leading shochu makers in Kagoshima. Their claim to fame is a barrel-aged shochu called Mellowed Kozuru which was launched in 1957. The distillery opened and began distilling in late 2017 and is now producing bottles of its own whisky. This is a single malt Japanese whisky, distilled in November 2019 and bottled in April 2025. It was matured in an Ex-Bourbon Quarter Cask and is a limited release of 150 bottles, exclusively for The Whisky Exchange and Whisky Show 2025. It is non-chill filtered.

Nose
This whisky opens with big, ripe fruit – sun-warmed apricots that soften into honeycomb, lifted by a delicate, fragrant herbal note. Toasted marshmallows, honeycomb and black tea.
Palate
More apricots and juicy peaches layer with honeycomb that deepens into bittersweet caramel, reminiscent of the charred sweetness of toasted marshmallows, before easing into the refined bitterness of black tea. Hints of lemon verbena and ripe apricots.
Finish
Carries the juiciness of stone fruit long and bright, with a whisper of lemon verbena to close.
