Description

The Kavalan Solist Port Cask is a single malt whisky from Taiwan's Kavalan Distillery, part of their highly-regarded Solist series. This expression is fully matured in Portuguese Port barriques and bottled at cask strength, typically around 58.6% ABV. It is a single cask release, non-chill filtered, and known for its rich, complex, and intensely fruity profile, often described as a 'port bomb' due to the strong influence of the port cask maturation.

Nose
Incredibly aromatic with dark fruits (raisins, grapes, plums, cherries, red berries, sloe berries), brown sugar, molasses, vanilla, milk chocolate, orange zest, nuttiness, and port aromas. Peppery at first, with some oak and cooking spice.
Palate
Sweet, rich, and complex. Candied fruits, grapey and plumy characteristics, dark chocolate, sultanas, plum, dark cherry, citrus zests, brown sugar, nutmeg, pepper, ginger, coffee. Luscious, thick, and syrupy mouthfeel with an oaky backbone.
Finish
Long and evolving. Fruity, candied characteristics fading into oaky elements, burnt sugar, caramel, fizzy strawberry laces, dried fig, raisin, berry jam, cocoa, coffee grounds, black-tea tannin, light spice, lingering chocolate, oak, tobacco, cinnamon, and a bit of astringency.
