Description

Kilchoman, established in 2005, was the first distillery built on Islay in 124 years and has gained a strong reputation. This limited edition Machir Bay Cask Strength 2021 is a heavily peated Islay single malt, made using the same vatting recipe as the regular Machir Bay but bottled at cask strength. It is matured predominantly in ex-bourbon casks and a small proportion of sherry casks, and is non-chill filtered with no added coloring.

Nose
Opens with light, fruity notes, intense waves of fresh green apple followed by candied tropical fruits. Lasting hints of dry, earthy peat smoke become the backbone.
Palate
Noticeably powerful at cask strength, combining citrus notes of lemon and orange peel. As the whisky opens it reveals a dominant honeycomb-sweetness that makes way for a profile driven by milk chocolate, provided by a Bourbon-rich maturation.
Finish
A slight cracked black pepper spice combined with nutmeg. The oily, rich texture delivers an increasingly smoky influence.
