Description

Kilchoman, which came online in 2005, was the first distillery to be built on Islay for 124 years and has garnered a sterling reputation. This particular release is a 2012 vintage single malt, matured for 8 years, and finished in a Tequila cask. It was bottled in 2021 as a single cask release, exclusively for The Whisky Exchange.

Nose
Earthy and vegetal, yet surprisingly light, with hints of smouldering hay. Set honey, lemon rind and hints of green peppers developing over time. Fattier and fruitier, with more agave, gooseberries, apricots, leather, and seaweed.
Palate
Sweet and sharp initially, with plum skin and pomegranate, burning heather, white pepper, ginger and green chillies. Aromatic roasted agave appears alongside sweet touches of honey. Much sweeter and rounder, with apples, vanilla custard, white gummy bears, and black pepper.
Finish
Long, on vanilla and fruits, medicinal smoke and aniseed. Also notes of soft resins, ashes, briney fruits, herbal tea, and an outstanding cotton candy-like sweetness.
