This Kilchoman Club exclusive is the 11th edition, a vatting of three ex-bourbon barrels that have been finished in fresh Sicilian Marsala casks for fifteen months before being bottled at cask strength. Kilchoman, which came online in 2005, has garnered a sterling reputation for its quality mature whiskies. This release was exclusively available to Club Members only.

Golden raisins, dates and toasted almonds suggest a fairly rich start, with citrus sweetness and Kilchoman freshness offering a brighter counterpoint. That sounds appealing, though the description leans on abundance rather than saying much about balance; balance matters more to me than claims of an “explosion” of flavours.
