Description

A Campbeltown malt distillery that originally operated between 1872 and 1925. The site was acquired by J&A Mitchell in 2000 and re-opened four years later after extensive renovation and rebuilding. As the distillery name was still trademarked by a former owner, its single malt is sold as Kilkerran. The brand name used by J&A Mitchell & Co to market single malt produced at the Glengyle distillery. For the 6th release of Kilkerran's Work In Progress, this expression was matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled in 2014 at 46% ABV. This release forms part of the Kilkerran “Work In Progress” series, a range created to showcase the evolving spirit from the distillery while it matured towards the eventual core 12-year-old expression. This 6th release was matured in ex-bourbon casks and yielded 9,000 bottles.

Nose
Inviting and homely straight away. Ripe green apples, herbal sweetness and rich in sugar glazed apricots.
Palate
It's nuts! Rich oily walnuts, continuing the wholesome notes from the nose. More a work in perfection than work in progress, with a great delicate balance between the sweeter fruit notes and lively spices. It is unmistakenly Campbeltown, so comforting and rich. It gets sweeter and stickier with a touch of water.
Finish
This dram is not for the impatient! Treat it like a cryptic crossword, give it time and enjoy this fabulous Campbeltown spirit.
