Nose
It leads with peat smoke and rhubarb crumble, the smoke, port influence and sweetness from the grains all working together. Any harsh or rough edges from the peat were rounded off and softened by the port, with a little bit of white pepper spice poking through. The longer it sat in the glass, the more the 'jammy' influence of the port casks started to shine.
Palate
Very smoky and sweet, at 56.05% ABV, it's warm, but not hot, with a rich mouthfeel lending the whiskey some creamy texture which lets the caramel malt and pot still spice stand out proud. There's more spice on the palate, like some tigly Chinese sichuan pepper. Still though, the port influence is unmissable, like stewed summer fruits.
Finish
It's nice and long, with the ABV helping it to linger nicely. The peat smoke and sweet, stewed summer fruits gently fade into the background, leaving the spice to hold centre stage a bit longer.
