Description

Founded in 1952, Kumesen Syuzo (now Masahiro Distillery, established 1883) produces spirits in Okinawa, Japan. This Kujira Ryukyu Whisky 10 Year Old is a single grain whisky distilled from 100% Indica rice, using black Koji, a unique koji found only in Okinawa. It is matured for over 10 years in White Oak Virgin Casks in Okinawa's subtropical climate, which accelerates the aging process. The whisky is non-chill filtered and non-colored.

Honey and brown sugar, with spices and soft oaky aromas. Also notes of rich and sweet butter, caramel, tropical fruits like mango, pineapple, coconut, vanilla, and hints of dried fig, roasted sweet potato skins, and white pepper.
Palate
Soft butter caramel sauce, licorice, baked bread, roasted wood, and charming spices such as clover and cinnamon. Sweet and buttery with a smooth, velvety texture, layered with tropical fruits like passionfruit and papaya, white pepper, and coastal spice.
Finish
Long finish of spices, with a slight pleasant bitterness balancing the sweetness. Lingering notes of rice paper or soft mochi, oak dryness, and a delicate wave of island minerality.
