Description

This is a blended malt whisky from Kyoto Miyako Distillery, the first whisky distillery in Kyoto, Japan. The distillery, located in Kyotamba-cho near the Yura River, began producing its own whisky in 2020, but early releases like this 'Murasaki Obi' (Purple Label) expression were made with imported whiskies, some from Scotland, due to the young age of their own distillate. The bottle features a distinctive label made from Nishijin-ori, a traditional Kyoto fabric, paying homage to the city's rich textile art. It is bottled at 43% ABV and is without an age statement.

Nose
Floral notes of cherry blossom, honey, and pear, with a malty aroma. Hints of vanilla, almonds, and wet cereals, along with a faint scent of solvent, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Some sources also mention pineapple, meringue, white chocolate, and a subtle thread of smoke.
Palate
Fresh and delicate, with stone fruits, green tea, and a hint of ginger. A strong malty aroma with well-balanced smokiness, and notes of vanilla, spices, nuts, and wood.
Finish
Elegant, fresh, and lingering, reminiscent of Kyotamba Cho's rich nature. It can be quite long and dry, with vegetal notes, spices, brown sugar, and malt, or sometimes shorter with bitter, spicy, and herbaceous notes with slight vanilla veins.
