Description

This 7 year old Lagavulin Jazz Festival Exclusive is a new edition to the event this year, which Lagavulin hope will delight fans of the brand who are unable to make it to the Distillery in person. It was created as a golden opportunity to showcase the vibrancy and life that is found in Lagavulin spirit, with seven years in cask honing the flavour and adding a touch of sweetness without dampening its vibrancy. It's described as a fairly straightforward and uncomplicated whisky, with the addition of ex-bourbon casks and bottling at cask strength offering a different perspective on the well-known Lagavulin whisky flavours.

Nose
Mild with a light prickle, maritime notes of brine and iodine, citric hints, and a chalky, faintly medicinal base. Initial notes of icing sugar, burnt toast, fresh mushroom, and smouldering log fires, evolving to croissants, dirt, earth, and lemon peel. Hot ash, damp moss, and a prickly pepper heat are also present, with underlying vanilla and milk chocolate.
Palate
Smooth and oily texture. Lightly sweet, rounded, and citrus-fruity with notable saltiness. Initial hit of ashy smoke and dirt, followed by thyme, salted caramel, cloves, aniseed, chilli, and cinnamon. Prickly pepper heat, feisty peat smoke, tangy lemon and lime peel, damp moss, drying seaweed, coal tar soap, charcoal ash, and embers. Pungent wood smoke leads to white pepper heat.
Finish
Quite long, smoky, and drying, with spicy heat entwined with smoke. Lingering salt, sweetness, and a warming chill heat, with a mouth-cooling aftertaste.
