Description

Distilled on the Isle of Islay at Lagavulin distillery, this release has been bottled specially for the Islay Jazz Festival 2022. This expression was put down to mature for 14 years, firstly in refill American oak casks, before being transferred to brandy seasoned hogsheads for a finishing period. Part of a limited release of 3,000 bottles, this whisky has been bottled at a natural cask strength of 55.4% abv.

Nose
Mellow, with light prickle, and dry overall. Hints of carbolic soap and fragrant smoke recalling Lapsang Souchong tea, backed by light maritime notes of sweet edible seaweed. A drop of water releases the scent of linseed oil on cricket bats.
Palate
Creamy-smooth texture and a sweet initial taste, well balanced by saltiness, then joined by fast-rising smoke and considerable peppery spiciness. Sweetness, seawater, seaweed, peat accompanied by dark fruits such as grapes.
Finish
Long, with more smoke and plenty of spiciness, finishing dry with lingering smoke. Slightly cooling, the aftertaste suggests pepper from Szechuan. Dryness, firewood, a touch of salty bitterness.
