Description

This Laphroaig 10 Years Old from the remote island of Islay is a signature malt, renowned for its heavily peated profile and rich, complex flavour. The name 'Laphroaig' is Gaelic for 'the beautiful hollow by the broad bay'. This edition was bottled in the late 1990s, after the distillery received a Royal Warrant from HRH Prince Charles in 1994. It embodies the classic Islay characteristics, offering a distinctive and characterful dram.

Nose
Big, smoky, and muscular peat notes are prominent, accompanied by medicinal iodine, ash, and a hint of sea spray. Underlying notes of citrus rind, liquorice, spices, and cool wood smoke can also be detected, sometimes with a touch of vanilla, apple, and pear.
Palate
The palate is rich and complex, with a strong presence of peat smoke, salt, and seaweed. Medicinal notes like TCP and plasters are often present, balanced by subtle sweetness, vanilla ice cream, and hints of citrus (lemon, pineapple, apple). Oak influence is noticeable, with developing spices such as cardamom, black pepper, and chili.
Finish
The finish is long, drying, and smoky, with lingering tarry and savoury notes. Iodine complexity, salty sea breeze, and a touch of copper are evident, often accompanied by a surprising sweetness and fruity undertones.
