Description

Laphroaig 25 Years Old 2014 Cask Strength Edition is a special cask strength version of Laphroaig's lauded 25-year-old single malt. The whisky matured for a quarter of a century in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks and American oak ex-bourbon barrels, before being bottled at a cask strength of 45.1%. The result is an elegant and fruity dram with gentle Islay peat and aromas of cinnamon, vanilla and spiced apple. On the palate, soft flavours of Demerara sugar and baked red apples develop.

Maltiply Tasting Profile
Nose
Initial entry presents a rich and sweet note reminiscent of orchard fruits and sherried raisins, with a rich barley undertone, sea salt, sea spray, menthol, and a hint of peat. Subtle smoke, dry fruit, vanilla, light pipe tobacco, and a slightly salty character are also present, alongside earth, wet wool, ash, lemon, apple, dark chocolate, iodine, camphor, honey, baked apple pie, cinnamon, roasted pears, and lox.
Palate
The richness continues with a silky smoothness. Chewy barley, barley sugar, sherried raisins, summer orchard fruit, and briny peat emerge. Soft flavors of Demerara sugar and baked red apples develop. It is refreshing, mild, light earthy, and has a light honey note. Brine, ash, earth, dark chocolate, almond, sage, smoked fruit tarts, pears, seafood, smoked salmon, nori, oysters, seaweed, and French chantilly cream are also noted.
Finish
Long and lingering, with cigar ash, briny peat, summer orchard fruits, sherried raisins, dried peat, seaweed, ash, tobacco, vanilla, cinnamon, and leafy notes. Smoky with pepper, roast meat, barbecue, sea salt, bacon, camphor, and a hint of band-aids and black pepper.
