Description

Laphroaig was founded in 1815 by two brothers from the unassuming Johnston family on the south coast of Islay. Named after the location that the distillery itself was created upon, the name loosely translates to the 'broad hollow by the bay'. Dark chocolate and menthol with pink peppercorns. Toasted peaches, charred marshmallows and a hint of plum jam, all intertwined with Iodine rich peat smoke.
Palate
Honey sweet with medicinal smoke, caramel, hot tar, sweet red wine and burning peat. Dark fruits, plums, raisins, chocolate, smoked salt, caramel, herbs.
Finish
Mouth warming, medium length, dark fruits, spices and lingering smoke. Long and warming, with lingering smoke, sweet red fruits, spice, and maritime notes. Mint, menthol and anise lead to tar-covered sponge cake.
