Description

Laphroaig was founded in 1815 by two brothers from the unassuming Johnston family on the south coast of Islay. Named after the location that the distillery itself was created upon, the name loosely translates to the 'broad hollow by the bay'. In 1994 the Prince of Wales awarded it the Royal Warrant, an accolade attested to no other whisky on earth. This Laphroaig 12 Year Old Single Cask #1783 was distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2022, exclusively for Highgrove. It was matured in a first-use Bourbon cask and is non-chill filtered and naturally coloured.

Surprisingly sweet to start, then salty and dry, with billows of tarry smoke and medicinal, seaweed-like flavours. Robust peat smokiness, medicinal notes enveloped by a vanilla sweetness.

Long finish with surprising sweetness, smouldering peat, rubber and a dusting of salt and pepper.
