Description

This is the inaugural release from Laphroaig's 'The Ian Hunter Story' series, celebrating Ian Hunter, the last member of the Johnston family to own and manage Laphroaig Distillery. This 30 Year Old single malt was matured exclusively in first-fill American white oak bourbon barrels, paying homage to Hunter's decision to introduce American oak maturation to Laphroaig. It is presented in a faux hardback book presentation case.

Nose
Sweet and medicinal with manuka honey, light peat smoke, cooked apple and rosemary vanilla. Orgeat syrup and a hint of lemon peel. Lemon candy, ripe orchard fruit, vanilla, and orange blossom honey. Light and minty.
Palate
Peaty and peppery with notes of herbs, cedar, kumquat zest and gorse flower. Sweetness of custard cream and vanilla pods. Waves of lightly smoked honey, hints of pepper and peat. Aromatic oak and seaweed, chocolate and toffee, salt and smoke.
Finish
Coastal with subtle iodine, sea salt and seaweed notes. A touch of coffee and oaky character. Surprisingly sweet, salted caramel pairs with toasted old oak and smoked herbs. Pinch of citrus, soft and cleansing element on top of lingering peat. Slightly salty and iodine.
