Description

Laphroaig is synonymous with bold, Islay smoke, and this beautifully aged, sumptuously spirited 19-year-old Vintage Reserve bottling has all this and more. A vatting of two ex-bourbon barrels, it offers all the lively, pronounced, medicinal smoke you'd expect, with bright fruit notes layered through the iodine-driven, seaside character. An essential release for Islay whisky lovers.

Nose
A quintessential Laphroaig here, with a fascinating, bold nose opening with petrichor, crisp green apple, coconut and eucalyptus notes. With time, kerosene, digestive biscuit, roast pork with apple sauce and buttery grains arrive. Cinnamon, white chocolate, pithy citrus and bonfire smoke linger on.
Palate
Initially quite metallic, wet stone, nutmeg, bike oil and black pepper develop with the striking complexity. Apple skin, citrus peels, kelp and soy sauce notes are set in an industrial smoke, with cinnamon and nutmeg providing both a lift and a warming prickle.
Finish
Incredibly long with lingering medicinal smoke and a subtle chilli heat.
