Description

Ledaig Hebridean Moon is a limited-edition, cask-strength 10-year-old single malt Scotch whisky from Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull. This release is notable as the first aged whisky crafted from the spirit that flowed through the distillery's newest stills, installed in 2014. Matured in second-fill ex-bourbon casks, it is bottled at 58.8% ABV, non-chill filtered, and at natural colour. Inspired by the ancient Baliscate Standing Stones on the Isle of Mull and their connection to the lunar cycle, this peated expression offers intense, smoky layers with notes of vanilla, candied fruit, and double cream. Limited to 7,000 bottles globally, it represents a new chapter for Ledaig.

Nose
An earthy smoke fades to reveal soft vanilla, double cream and candied fruit with a gentle spice and touch of cracked black pepper. Oily notes of barley, vanilla, and a touch of cream all sit on top of that lovely, coastal earthy peat. Hints of seaweed, smoked barley husks and lemon peel, as well as some light notes of orange blossom, reed stalks and caster sugar.
Palate
Packed full of citrus notes reminiscent of lemon drizzle cake, balanced with notes of fresh leather, tobacco and a hint of toasted oak. Thick and wonderfully oily in mouthfeel, with notes of pale honey, cereal, brown sugar and charred oak all wrapped up in that wonderful Ledaig peatiness. Salted liquorice and caramel sweets hit first, quickly joined by roast beef, brine, and smouldering ashes. Bright lime zest and a touch of bitter orange cut through the richness.
Finish
A warm medicinal smoke lingers with a gentle cinnamon spice. Long, peppery and spicy. The smoke wears out fairly quickly but the warming notes of black pepper and winter spice keep going and going. Salted liquorice and citrus oils hang on the longest, gradually fading into soft echoes of iodine and coastal smoke.
