Description

The fourth installment in the Westie Sponge series from Whisky Sponge and Decadent Drinks, this 29-year-old Ledaig single malt was distilled at Tobermory Distillery in 1995 and matured in a refill sherry butt. It is described as lightly peated with rich sherried notes, hints of seaweed, dried chili flakes, sticky toffee pudding, and black pepper, presenting an older, more traditional Highland style of malt.

Nose
Dirty and industrial with Root beer and marzipan, maritime and a touch rubbery, gamey meat, candle wax, grill smoke. Also tons of cola, raspberries, varnish in the background, black plums, ashy char, water brings out creosote and a hint of latex paint.
Palate
Medium-bodied, vibrant with a building waxiness, medicinal herbs, charred meat, wispy smoke, dirty and industrial, Root Beer, iron and rust, maritime brine. Also huge and oily ~ still more cola, charcuterie meats, soot, red apples with their skins, more raspberries.
Finish
Long and lingering with cola, wispy smoke, and a touch of brine. Also very long ~ wood spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, sooty smoke, apple cider, quince, tannins.
