Description

Mackillop's Choice independent whisky bottler was founded in 1996 by Angus Dundee Distillers (owner of the Glencadam and Tomintoul distilleries).It is named after Lorne Mackillop. Lorne Mackillop is the heir to the chief of the Mackillop Clan, which was all but wiped out by the English in the aftermath of the Battle of Culloden in 1745 during the Jacobite Rebellion. Nose
Soft creamy, fruit notes, oiled leather, honey on crackers, soft smoke, melted wax, good pastry, stewed tropical fruits, peach cobbler, moist tobacco. Austere, prickly, wet wool, mineral oil, lemon zest, chalk, cereals, musky, aspirin. With water: citronella, tart-sweet apple, wax.
Palate
Velvety, high-quality melted chocolate, beautifully smoky, fruit flavours (apple, tropical), slightly wine-y, toasty clean oak. Hot but approachable, rubber gasket (peat?), greater maltiness, prickliness, acid, sweeter notes. With water: acid expands, peat, yeasty note, simple syrup-sweetness.
Finish
Apple skins, pear skins, peach pits, clean cereals, firm oak, long. Peatier, wet leaves, saltier, cinnamon coolness.
