Description

Lochlea Ploughing Edition Third Crop is the final release in Lochlea's seasonal limited-edition series, showcasing the distillery's smokiest whisky to date. Matured exclusively in 100% ex-Islay 200-litre casks, this expression reflects the rhythms of life on the farm and offers a distinctive peated twist to Lochlea's signature fruit and cereal-forward spirit. It was released in March 2025. [1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12]

Nose
Fresh, crisp green apples and malt biscuits form the aromatic foundation, typical of Lochlea. Gentle wisps of smoke and salty coastal aromas from the ex-Islay casks are layered over this, reminiscent of a fresh sea breeze. [1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11]
Palate
Significantly stronger than its predecessors, yet excellently balanced. Sweet, grainy base with more fresh fruit, savoury smoke, malted biscuits, bonfire embers, and coastal salinity. [1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11]
Finish
Moreish fresh coastal notes of sea salt and a long lingering hint of peat. Fruity and sweet elements slowly fade, while the smoke and spices linger. [1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11]
